The Escondido Union High School District (EUHSD) celebrated the first day of the fall semester on Tuesday, August 9. Nearly 7,000 students returned to Del Lago Academy, Escondido, Orange Glen, San Pasqual, and Valley high schools. Escondido Adult School began classes Monday, August 8, although enrollment is ongoing with classes starting year-round.
“It’s great to see the excitement in the eyes of our freshmen, the growth of our sophomores and juniors over summer, and the maturity of our seniors when they all step onto campus together,” said San Pasqual High Principal Cory Gregory of the start of the school year. “The recipe for success as a student is to show up daily, be on time, participate in classes, communicate with teachers, meet deadlines, and most of all, have fun along the way.”
Students at each school site will spend some of the first week back on campus participating in welcome and team building activities, in addition to connecting with their teachers and support staff and getting acquainted with their new classes.
“Welcoming students back to campus for the start of the school year is always an exciting time,” said Supt. Anne Staffieri. “Celebrating a successful first day on each of our sites is a testament to the hard work that goes on behind the scenes for all our staff and administrative teams.” Dr. Staffieri added, “We are off to a fantastic start to the new school year.”
Teachers and staff at each of the EUHSD schools began the new school year at least a week before students, participating in professional learning and preparing for the start of the school year.
