Winners awarded in Celebrate Grand Escondido art show

The 2nd Annual “Celebrate Grand Escondido” 2-D Art Show, presented by the Escondido Art Association, held its reception and awards presentation on Saturday, October 8 at the Artists Gallery on 121 W. Grand Avenue.

The EAA is a participant of MAGEC (Museum & Arts: Growing Escondido Culture) a newly formed group that is reviving the Escondido Second Saturday Art Walk, and promoting Escondido’s vibrant arts, heritage and educational culture.

All of the artwork adheres to the theme of promoting the pride and promise in the grand City of Escondido. Over $1,000 in award money, plus free entries to future shows, was presented to the winners in four categories as follows:

Best of Show ($150) was awarded to Karen Vincent for her watercolor “Eucalyptus at Kit Carson Park.”

Watercolor: First Place ($100) to Betty Erickson for “Fence Post at Von Seggren Park”; Second Place ($75) to Marcella Martin for “More Cream?”; Third Place ($50) to Rosemarie Woldin for “Sweet”; and Hon. Mention (free entry) to Kamal Tehrani for “Cottage House.”

Oil/Acrylic: First Place ($100) to Julie Bradbury- Bennett for “Grape Day Park”; Second Place ($75) to Kathy Aldrich for “Trout Cove at Dixon Lake”; Third Place ($50) to Kasturi Rangan for “Playground at Grape Day Park”; and Hon. Mention to Kathy Aldrich for “View from Bridge at Grape Day Park.”.

Other/Mixed Media: First Place ($100) to Suzanne Nicolaisen for “Escondido Then”; Second Place ($75) to Linda Reyes for her pastel “Winston”; Third Place ($50) to Norm Baumgarten for “Orfila Wine Harvest”; and Hon. Mention to Betty Hyde for “Hollyhocks to Lollipops, Shop Grand.”

Photography/Digital: First Place ($100) to Tony Barber for “Classic Crusin’ “; Second Place ($75) to Robert Grant for “Bandy Blacksmith at Work”; Third Place ($50) to Bob Ochs for “Homeless in Escondido”; and Honorable Mention to Tony Barber for “Vintage Chrome.”

The show will run through October 28 and the Peoples Choice Award ($25, plus a free entry) will be announced at the end of the month.
