William (Bill) Uhland, 88, passed away Monday, April 1. He was the grandson of Jacob Uhland, settler in the Twin Oaks Valley of San Marcos.
Born June 10, 1930 to William & Ruth Uhland of San Marcos, Mr. Uhland grew up in the valley, attending elementary school in the one room school house located on Deer Springs Road. He graduated from Escondido High and began farming in the Twin Oaks and Vista area. He served the community as a volunteer fireman, earning the rank of Captain, was on the San Marcos School board, Cemetery Board and member and two time President of the San Marcos Rotary Club.
He and his wife, Clarissa, have been known for their community involvement with the Boys and Girls Club, FOR Club of Richland Elementary and hosting many community gatherings at their home on Deer Springs Road.
Mr. Uhland is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clarissa Uhland, and his daughter, Marilyn Uhland Kiser of Chico, California, and son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Patty Uhland of San Marcos. He has five grandchildren, Jamie Uhland Lovejoy, Jennifer Uhland, Adrian, Kevin and Eric (deceased) Kiser and seven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the San Marcos Cemetery on May 24 at 1 p.m.
