We accept submissions

This is the age of the “citizen journalist” and in that spirit the Escondido Times-Advocate gratefully accepts submissions to this community newspaper.

And that’s where you come in.

Everyone is a reporter for the Times- Advocate. So, if you know someone who is having a significant birthday (like turning 90 or 100), anniversary, graduation, wedding etc., please send us the information and, where possible, a photo. We also accept submissions on various doings around town. If your club is having an event, feel free to send us a press release, in fact we LOVE to get such submissions.

A few caveats, however. Please don’t send documents with photos imbedded in them. This makes it very time consuming for us as we have to figure out how to extract the photos.

Please use a common word processing program, such as Microsoft Word (which is actually preferred.) Or, if you don’t have that, just send us an email with your text unformatted as part of the email message.

Remember that our deadline is Monday morning at the latest. Later than that and you risk not getting into the paper at all that week.

We try to limit our coverage to Escondido. If you have something going on in Vista, or San Marcos or Oceanside, good for you! However, unless it’s of universal interest, we’re not likely to cover it in the Escondido Times Advocate. But if you are an Escondido resident doing something in another city, we will happily include information about that in our paper.

When you are writing, please file the exclamation point off your keyboard. Actually, we’re kidding, but you get the point. Prose that is written with a breathless, junior high school quality will probably be edited.

Very often we will attend events, if you give us sufficient advance warning. But please, don’t call us or email us and say, “Hey, can you come by later today and get a photo?” Try to let us know several days in advance so that we can add it to our schedule. Depending on our printing schedule, we may not be able to make it at all, and that’s where you come in.

We also accept freelance submissions, but you should email us first at editor@ times-advocate.com to find out about our rates for stories and photos.
