Escondido residents, along with all San Diego County voters, will have the opportunity this coming March to positively impact our City and the entire County of San Diego by voting Yes on Measure B, the Better Choice Measure.
Voting YES on Measure B will create 2,135 new homes and 1,209 acres of permanent open space on privately-owned property that is located less than two miles from Escondido, San Marcos and Vista. YES on B provides voters with a better choice when compared to the County General Plan that designates this property for a two million square-foot retail and office development with 99 mansions.
This Newland Sierra project was thoroughly studied through a public process and approved unanimously by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in 2018. Unfortunately, it was forced onto the ballot by the billionaire owners of the Golden Door Spa who have spent millions of dollars to fight this project in order to protect their narrow interests and celebrity clientele.
Escondido stands to benefit significantly from the passage of Measure B. If approved on March 3rd, Measure B will provide $56 million worth of road and infrastructure improvements that will ease traffic congestion and increase safety features, implement $4.4 million for a state-of-the-art fire protection plan that will increase fire safety for North County residents and contribute $19 million for local schools, including the Escondido Union School District.
As community leaders who have the best interests of Escondido at heart, we support YES on B because it also creates needed housing for local working families located near jobs, transportation corridors and infrastructure of nearby cities. Guaranteed through a legally-binding covenant on the deed of the property, voting YES on B will provide 1,331 homes that are affordably-priced for working families and seniors in San Diego County. Approximately 500 of those homes will be prioritized for active duty military personnel, educators, police, firefighters, veterans, and other first responders. This will help those who are all too often priced out of San Diego to remain in the same County where they work to serve us and keep us safe.
For all of these reasons and many others, YES on B is the better choice for Escondido and all of San Diego County. We hope you’ll join us in creating a bright future for North County by voting YES on Measure B on March 3.
