The 3rd annual Escondido Tamale Festival (www.EscondidoTamaleFestival.com) is a free community event presented by the Escondido Downtown Business Association, on Saturday November 11, 11 a.m.– 5 p.m. in Grape Day park.
Organizer Alex MacLachlan tells The Times-Advocate that vendor space is sold out. “We are requesting contestants for the Salsa dance contest sponsored by Arthur Murray Dance School, and Chihuahua costume contest / fashion show, sponsored by Kahoots. Just show up and sign up at the Will Call booth near the beer and wine garden.”

“We are also excited to see who wins this year’s Best Tamale contest. These vendors are very competitive, with Coop’s BBQ and La Luz del Mundo, last year’s 2nd and 3rd place finishers, trying to unseat back-to-back champion, El Tejate restaurant of Escondido,” said MacLachlan.
Judges, James Montejano (Seaside Market), Jesse Paul (Wooden Spoon), Shane Dustin (Hilton Hotels), and chef Robert Reid III will have their hands and taste buds full with these and other new contestants. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m.
The Escondido Tamale Festival is a celebration of Tamales and all the great Latin foods that have become iconic staples of California’s culture. It’s a look back at the history of the Spanish and Mexican settlers who have influenced and contributed to our multicultural community, and a show of appreciation for the traditions, which have so positively affected Escondido.
