Valley Center teen Riley Baranowski, a 14-year-old Valley Center catcher has been selected to be part of the USA Baseball team set to travel to Japan this month to compete for the world title in the 34th Annual International World Tournament.

This summer, for two weeks beginning July 31st, Team USA San Diego will be traveling to Nagoya, Japan to play in the 34th Annual World Boys Baseball Tournament against teams from Japan, Germany, Australia, China, Mexico, Korea, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Brazil plus 2 other teams from California and Hawaii.

To help with the significant costs involved in traveling to play in Japan, including airfare, hotel and tournament costs, Riley needs donations and sponsors on his behalf to this non-profit organization (Tax ID #: 20-0504653). Contributions are tax-deductible.

“Your donation, no matter how big or small, is very important to me and any amount helps me get closer to getting to Japan to compete in this elite event,” said Riley.

“These friendship tournaments provide not only great baseball, but more importantly, they are an amazing cultural and social experience for us as players.” added the teen athlete. “I am very honored and excited to have been selected to represent the

USA and Valley Center for a second year in this world tournament. Last year, I competed as part of this team and we earned 2nd place only losing to Japan in the finals so we are ready to challenge them for the title!”

In 2014, Riley and his older brother Ryan, also a catcher, were on the USA team that earned the silver medal last year in Hawaii, only losing to Japan. That marked the first time in the 33-year history of the organization that brothers had played on this team at the same time. Riley is now an entering freshman at Valley Center High School, a straight “A” student and also a noted drummer with the VC school bands.
