Trout planting Dec. 10 at Lake Wohlford

The trout opener is three weeks away at Lake Wohlford. There are 6,000 lbs. of Nebraska Tail-Walkers scheduled for Saturday December 10, when the park will be opened all during the week again (currently it’s only open on weekends.)

Park hours: 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Closed weekdays open Weekends only)

Dock closes: 4:30 p.m.

Last Plant: small (undisclosed amount) of DFW trout in early November

Water temperature: At surface 63.14 f., 7.06 D.O. @ 10’ 63.32 f., 6.71 D.O.

Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned

To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Permits and Boat Rentals are now being issued at the Ranger Station. At present they are limited to cash transactions only.

Catfish are biting throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver.

Largemouth bass can be found around structure. Mike Hernandez of Valley Center caught and released a 6.80# bass throwing a swim-bait on Senior Shoreline. With the re-introduction of trout to the menu this would be an excellent time to use swim-baits in hopes of landing a big bucket-mouth.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
