The resolution to a dispute between the North County bus drivers union and First Transit, was being discussed by union members as The Times-Advocate went to press on Tuesday.
Teamsters Union Local 542, representing 300 North County drivers, postponed a strike vote last week and were meeting Tuesday to review an offer made by the transit provider. The union members have been working without a new contract since June 30, 2015.
First Transit contracts with the North County Transit District to provide fixed transportation, among other services.
In the event of a strike the contractor would be obliged to provide alternative transportation. A First Transit spokesman said last week that the agency would need time until it could provide service, which could leave bus riders stranded for two weeks.
The NCTC bus system provides rides for 25,800 people on an average weekday. Service on the Sprinter and Coastal Train would not be affected.
