Bates to host arts, crafts fair this weekend

Bates Nut Farm will host its Arts, Crafts and Vintage Market this weekend.

Saturday, April 21, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  There will be a Food Truck Festival from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. featuring:

Boot Barn to host grand opening

The new Escondido Boot Barn is hosting their Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting on Friday, April 20 at noon. The event will be held at 1106 W. Valley Pkwy

City of Escondido offers spring into summer kickoff event

The City of Escondido Community Services Department is offering a Spring into Summer Kick Off event on Saturday, April 21, at the El Arroyo Picnic Area of Kit Carson Park from 9– 11 a.m. 

The Spring into Summer Kick Off event will offer a variety of activities, trail exploration, and fun for all ages. The first 200 participants are guaranteed a free gift after check in. Register for summer camps and programs, participate in free Recreation class demonstrations, and use the new Kit Carson Park Trail Map to explore the trails and collect prize tickets along the way. The prize giveaway will occur at 11 a.m., and winners must be present.

Work by Girl Scout Troop  No. 4034 on the Kit Carson Park Trail Naming and Mapping Project, will be unveiled at the event. In May, the troop will receive their Silver Award for this sustainable community project. 

Various organizations will also have informational booths such as Escondido Recreation, Escondido Sports Center, Youth baseball, Soccer Club, Girls softball, Pop Warner Football, and Girl Scout Troop No. 4034, just to name a few.  Leashed dogs are welcome to attend. Annual Barbecue April 28 at Archaeological Center

The San Diego Archaeological Center in the San Pasqual Valley will hold its annual BBQ April 28, noon-4 p.m.

The San Diego Archaeological Center invites the public for an afternoon of food, amusement, music, and games.  Every year, the Center hosts its popular barbecue to honor its hardworking interns and volunteers, loyal members and supporters, and local archaeologists. This year is significant as it marks the Center’s Silver Anniversary.

The Center will serve up tacos, beer courtesy of Jacked Up Brewery, and more. Do you make an amazing salsa? Make sure to sign up for the Salsa Competition. To register, select Salsa Competition Registration when purchasing BBQ tickets.

Enjoy classic rock and country music performed by Head First, a crowd favorite at the annual barbecue event, featuring local archaeologist Dr. Timothy Gross.

The Center will also present the Golden Trowel Award for excellence in archaeology, recognize outstanding volunteers, and much more.

For those interested in working in the field of archaeology, the Center invites you to come early to hear cultural resource management (CRM), government, and academic archaeologists discuss job-seeking at the Employment Seminar held at 10:30 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets to the barbecue and network with guests.

There will be hunter gatherer games and an employment seminar at 10:30 a.m.

Presale tickets cost $10. $15 for non-members at the door, $5 for children 12 and under. Beer will be provided courtesy of Jacked Up Brewery.

Library hosts strategic plan meeting

Escondido Public Library invites the community to attend a Strategic Planning meeting. This will be held in the Turrentine Room, upstairs at Escondido Public Library on Tuesday, May 1, from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m.

By participating, you will have the opportunity to identify current conditions, create a vision of the library for the future, as well as develop the steps needed to achieve these goals.
