Escondido Public Library’s R.E.A.D. Middle Grade Book Club

Escondido Public Library’s Read, Eat, and Discuss (R.E.A.D.) Middle Grade Book Club for children, ages 9-12, will meet on Friday, September 22,  in the Turrentine Room from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Participants will explore Katherine Applegate’s novel, “Crenshaw.” Registration is required and now open at library.escondido.org/register. Circulating copies of the book are available for checkout and can be obtained at the Youth Services desk, while supplies last. To reserve a copy, visit the Library’s catalog at library.escondido.org.

Just as Jackson is about to enter the fifth grade, his family falls on hard times – again – and the last thing he needs is a visit from his old friend, Crenshaw, a very large and outspoken cat who may or may not be a figment of the young boy’s imagination. Like it or not Crenshaw is not going anywhere till he helps Jackson. In her singular voice, Katherine Applegate, Newbery-Medal-winning author of “The One and Only Ivan,” once again touches readers with her unique combination of humor and deeply felt emotion.
