Home firearm safety/ basic handgun class 

A monthly 3-hour familiarization and safety class is offered for anyone anticipating the purchase of, or who already own, a handgun.

The class is offered Sunday, September 10 from 2–5 p.m. at the Escondido Fish and Game Association shooting range east of Lake Wohlford. Participants learn the basics of handguns, home firearm safety and responsibility of firearm ownership. Handguns and ammunition are provided for the class but participants are encouraged to bring their own handgun if they already own one.

The Escondido Fish and Game Association range is located at 16525 Guejito Rd. &Lake Wohlford Road. Cost is $60. To register for the class call Jack at 760-746-2868.

Speaker on Community Choice Energy

Nicole Capretz, executive director of the Climate Action Campaign will speak at the September 9 meeting of the Escondido Democratic Club. Capretz will discuss the growing movement in California for clean energy, clean air, green jobs and the freedom of consumer choice through adoption of Community Choice Energy— including the roadmap for success. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m.-noon at the Park Avenue Community Center, 210 E. Park Ave., Escondido.

Bird lovers to meet

North County Aviculturists, for pet bird owners and breeders, is looking for more information. Don’t you wish everyone knew how easy it is to do that thing that you do? Come to the club’s Round Table discussion and share your best practices. See how other aviculturists are taking care of that problem. Also, they will provide the parts so you can make THREE bird toys. Various sized toy parts for different sized birds. You keep one, and two go into our bin to put on the monthly Ways and Means table. Learn a few tricks and see what amazing items show up on the Opportunity Table.

The group meets Saturday, September 2 at 7 p.m. Vista Masonic Lodge, 761 Eucalyptus, Vista. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

A reading costs $25 for 15 minutes.

ECCHO wine tasting

Escondido Country Club Home Owners is sponsoring an afternoon of Wine Tasting and Fun September 24, 2–4 p.m. at Belle Marie Winery in the Cask Room.

This is a fundraiser, and the donation to attend is $100.

It includes wine tasting of three different wines and your fourth is a full glass of your favorite. Belle Marie wine glass is included. Light refreshments and non-alcohol drinks will be provided.

There will also be raffle prizes.
