Auditions for “Annie”

Community Players Theatre is holding auditions its upcoming production of “Annie,” the Broadway musical about an orphan’s lifelong dream of finding her parents and the people who love her. This show includes such favorites as “Tomorrow,” “Little Girls” and “Hard Knock Life.”

Auditions will be held Tuesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 9, 7–9 p.m. Auditions are open to anyone ages 5-99. No appointment necessary. Please bring in a resume if you have one. The auditions will be held at Bailey Bees Theater, Community Lutheran Church, 3575 E Valley Parkway, Escondido.

Chris Ryan, artistic director of the theater told The Times-Advocate: “There is no cost in participating in our production company and we encourage people of our community to come and share their talents. If you aren’t good at acting, but like sewing or construction, please contact us. We have so many openings for some many different talents.”

For auditions, arrive with a short monologue and 30 seconds of a song to show off you talents.

30th annual Koi show

Largest West Coast Koi Show 2017. Over 300 Koi on display in competition, from 6 inches to 3 feet long. Described as “living jewels,” Koi can live over 100 years. Learn how to build your own Koi pond and waterfall, turning your backyard into a tropical paradise (everybody can own “waterfront property.”) Vendors will be selling Koi art, Koi T-Shirts, Koi fish of all sizes, pond and pump equipment, Koi food, patio furnishings, pond and water garden design, solar power, water garden plants and free advice for your Koi Pond and/or water garden. Free admission, located in Activity Center, next to the Spring Home/Garden Show, Del Mar Fairgrounds. Fun for the whole family. Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 4; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 5. Fairground parking is $13.

Kids Kaleidoscope Art Show

The Escondido Art Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the arts and the community since 1956, is once again hosting the Kids Kaleidoscope Art Show during the month of April, thanks to the generous

 

 

donations of EAA members. The 2017 show will be held during April at the Artists Gallery located at 121 W. Grand Avenue, Escondido.

The show, open to kids ages 5 through 18, showcases young artists in North County San Diego and presents the winners with ribbons and cash prize awards. Artwork is judged in the following age groups: K-5, Gr. 5-8, and Gr. 9-12. There are no entry fees to compete, one entry per student is permitted and awards will be given in each of the age groups for First Place, Second Place, Third Place and Honorable Mention. All age groups compete for the “Best of Show” $50 cash award. A Reception with refreshments will be held on Second Saturday, April 8, from 3– 5 p.m., with the awards ceremony taking place at 4 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

Drop-off dates for artwork at the Artists Gallery are Saturday, April 1, 11 a.m.—4 p.m. and Monday, April 3, 4–6 p.m. Artwork must be submitted suitable for gallery hanging. Entry Forms are available at the Artists Gallery. Show dates are Tuesday, April 4 through Friday, April 28. All artwork must be picked up on Saturday, April 29, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. or Monday, May 1, 4–6 p.m.

The Escondido Republican Club (TERC)

Brian Melonakos, Executive Advisor and former President CEO of Shofu Dental Corporation, will be ‘The Escondido Republican Club’s’ (TERC) guest speaker for their monthly lunchtime meeting on Monday, February 20. The title of his presentation is “Repealing and Replacing Obamacare:

Congressional Update.”

Melonakos will share a power point presentation that will include the latest update on likelihood of final legislation and prospects for passage along with recommended communications strategies.

The meeting will be held at the Cocina del Charro Restaurant located at 890 West Valley Parkway, Escondido. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. with the buffet luncheon service starting at 11:45 a.m. The meeting begins promptly at noon and concludes at 1 p.m.
