Home firearms safety/basic handgun class

A monthly 3-hour familiarization and safety class is offered for anyone anticipating the purchase of, or who already own, a handgun.

The class is offered Sunday, September 11 from 2– 5 p.m. at the Escondido Fish and Game Association shooting range east of Lake Wohlford.

Participants learn the basics of handguns, home firearm safety and responsibility of firearm ownership. Handguns and ammunition are provided for the class but participants are encouraged to bring their own handgun if they already own one.

The Escondido Fish and Game Association range is located at 16525 Guejito Rd. & Lake Wohlford Road. Cost for the class is $60.

Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament

The 18th Annual Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament benefiting the Escondido Police Athletic League will be held Friday, September 16 at the Vineyard Golf Club 925 San Pasqual Rd. Escondido.

The Escondido Police Athletic League is a non-profit organization that relies on educational and athletic activities to cement a bond between police officers and the youth in our community

Police cadets graduate

On August 13 seven Escondido Police Cadets graduated from the San Diego County Police Explorer Academy. The academy is one –week long and broken into three phases. The cadets learned law enforcement related topics by attending classes on criminal law, traffic enforcement, and officer safety, and a challenging physical training program.

Escondido Police Cadet Lisa Flora received the Phase 2 female Physical Training Award. Flora was also one of three cadets nominated for the Al Edgar Award, which recognizes the top cadet during the academy. Congratulations to all our cadets for their outstanding performance and successful completion of this year’s academy.

Escondido Writers Group meets at Escondido Public Library

Escondido Writers Group meets at the Escondido Public Library on Tuesday, September 6, from 1–3 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Writers of fiction, non-fiction, and memoirs are all invited to join the Escondido Writers Group for an opportunity to improve their writing by participating in monthly readings and group critiques. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of their current writing projects to share and receive constructive feedback. Pre-registration is required, please register at library.escondido.org/register.

Convention of the States meet and greet

This Convention of States Project San Diego Meet & Greet will be held just one day after the completion of the organization’s Historic Convention of States Amendments Convention Simulation which is being held in Williamsburg, Virginia on September 22-23.

The group will be discussing the historic event and viewing Social Media coverage of the event. Mike’s BBQ in Escondido is providing the meeting room. Attendees are asked to buy food and drink or make a donation.

Mike’s BBQ is located one block west of the I-15 on the north side of W. Valley Pkwy just before 9th Ave. The even runs from 1–4 p.m. Questions? Contact
