Thursday, car vs. motorcycle leaves one injured

Lt. Mike Kearney of the Escondido Police Department reported that on Thursday, February 23, 9:17 p.m. the police dispatch received numerous 911 calls regarding a vehicle vs. motorcycle collision at Broadway & Leslie Lane.

Police and firefighters arrived 4 minutes later and began rendering aid to the injured motorcyclist.

According to witness and involved parties, a 2002 Honda CBR motorcycle being driven by a 22-year-old Escondido man was traveling northbound on Broadway at a high rate of speed. A 1999 Toyota 4Runner being driven by a 59-year-old resident of Escondido was traveling southbound on Broadway and made a left turn onto Leslie Lane.

The motorcycle collided with the 4Runner which ejected the rider and caused the 4Runner to overturn. The driver of the 4Runner was uninjured. The motorcyclist was transported to Palomar Medical Center with severe head trauma. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.

The traffic investigation is ongoing and being conducted by Officer Steve Braucht of the Traffic Division. Witnesses are encouraged to call Officer Braucht at 760-839-4482.
