The Center Celebrates 25 Years of “Sparking Creativity + Igniting Connection”

A milestone is fast approaching for the California Center for the Arts, Escondido (The Center), as it celebrates its 25th Anniversary (XXV Season kick-off) on Friday, June 7, 2019.  The Center is dedicating an entire season to celebrating years of Sparking Creativity + Igniting Connection across North San Diego County.

The XXV Season kick-off is free to the public and starts with the 2nd Annual MAGEC in the Park event at 5 PM. The MAGEC group (Museums & Arts: Growing Escondido Culture), will host the Youth Art Sculpture Competition and family festival to showcase Escondido’s arts and culture in the Great Green area.

Escondido Mayor, Paul McNamara will help reveal the Center footbridge’s new artwork that celebrates the 25th Anniversary around 6:45 PM at the front of the footbridge.

“From its very first day, the CCAE has demonstrated it is a defining institution of who we are and what we value in our city.  Over the years, its rich programming across a broad spectrum has impacted and influenced thousands of lives, especially the lives of our children, “said Escondido Mayor, Paul McNamara.  “We should be proud of all of those who have contributed to the CCAE’s success as well as feeling grateful for not only their service to this community but their foresight.  Congratulations CCAE on 25 years of success.”

Guests will be able to end the evening with the Center’s new music series, Hidden City Sounds featuring Streetlight Cadence in the outdoor Lyric Court at 7 PM.  Streetlight Cadence is an alternative folk pop sensation with their classical instruments, family-friendly brand and storytelling-songwriting style attracts all audiences, making Streetlight Cadence a group enjoyed by people of all ages.

On October 1, 1994, the California Center for the Arts, Escondido opened on a green, 12-acre campus in downtown Escondido, adjacent to City Hall and Grape Day Park.

Charles Moore, known as the “California Architect,” designed the facilities as a fresh interpretation of traditional Southern California architecture, inspired by the region’s Spanish Colonial heritage.

Since its launch, the Center has grown to live up to that original civic vision, becoming a multi-faceted nonprofit arts foundation attracting more than 300,000 people annually to its performances, festivals and arts education programs.

It is the largest multidisciplinary cultural organization in the region and a true community resource, serving more than 800,000 people living throughout San Diego’s North County as well as visitors from outside the area.
