Alex MacLachlan of the Escondido Downtown Business Association is calling Saturday’s Tamale Festival, the “best yet.”
“Judging how many thousands of people came to the festival over the course of the day is always the hardest question,” he said. “But I would consider the 2017 Escondido Tamale Festival our best yet, in terms of crowd size, the good mood everyone was in, how the crowd flowed to all corners of the festival leaving most vendors busy, the moderate temperatures, and having the Veterans Day ceremony start us off with the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.”
MacLaclan told The Times-Advocate that several multi-generational groups traveled long distances to be with family at the festival. “Which really created a different and special atmosphere that we had hoped to achieve, when envisioning what this festival could become.
Don’t know if you saw the Best Tamale contest results, but Coop’s West Texas BBQ of Lemon Grove completed a clean sweep of all three places (1st, 2nd & 3rd).
First place was a beef brisket tamale with chipotle gravy, wrapped in banana leaves. More photos on page 15.
