Home firearm safety/ basic handgun class 

A monthly 3 hour familiarization and safety class is offered for anyone anticipating the purchase of, or who already own, a handgun.

The class is offered Sunday, November 4, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Escondido Fish and Game Association shooting range east of Lake Wohlford. Participants learn the basics of handguns, home firearm safety and responsibility of firearm ownership. Handguns and ammunition are provided for the class but participants are encouraged to bring their own handgun if they already own one.

The Escondido Fish and Game Association range is located at 16525 Guejito Rd. & Lake Wohlford Road. The cost is $60. To register for the class call Jack at 760-746-2868.

Interested in finding out more about your family? The Escondido Genealogical Society welcomes you Saturday October 27 at 10 a.m. at Park Ave. Community Center-Maple Room

210 Park Ave & Broadway, Escondido. Speaker will talk about her Lakota (Sioux) heritage Followed by time to discuss research problems.

The next Society meeting will be  Saturday November 17 at 10 a.m. at the same location, when they will have a Craft Fair, followed by plenty of time to discuss research problems.

San Marcos Rotary Club benefit golf tourney

The Rotary Club of San Marcos Foundation benefit golf tournament will be held at Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos on Tuesday, October 23 with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.  Cost is $150 per player and includes use of the driving range, lunch, tee package, golf & delicious dinner.  Fun, on-course contests, a silent auction and raffle with great prizes will also take place.  Benefitting partners include San Marcos High Music Boosters, San Marcos Boys & Girls Club as well as Rotary projects.  Registration for players and sponsorship opportunities are available on-line through Call 760-846-8103 for more information.

Candidate Forum

The Palomar Community College District, along with the Palomar College Foundation, will host a forum for candidates running for two of five seats on the Palomar Community College District Governing Board in the November election. The forum will be moderated by the League of Women Voters North County.

The forum is Monday, Oct. 22, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Palomar College Governing Board Room

StachetoberFest 2018

The 11th annual  StachetoberFest will be October 22 at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens from 5 p.m. until closing. 

This year the entrance fee is $20. For the first time, Uber has provided 700 vouchers good for up to $20 to first time users of the service.

There will be beer, t-shirts, a raffle and silent auction items, food, mustaches, and 750 firefighters, friends and family.
