Tree planting at Kit Carson Park

Saturday, November 23: 8:30 a.m.

If you are interested in helping beautify your community, the City of Escondido is inviting you to join other volunteers for a tree planting event at Kit Carson Park.

You don’t need to register for this volunteer opportunity, just check in at the Kit Carson Park Amphitheater no later than 8:30 a.m.

Wear long pants, long sleeved shirts and closed toe shoes. Bring a shovel if you have one. The holes for planting trees will be pre-dug, but help will be needed with filling the holes in.

Kit Carson Park is located at: 3333 Bear Valley Pkwy, Escondido.

Floral designer’s workshop

November 21, the Dos Valles Garden Club of Valley Center is sponsoring a Floral Designer’s Workshop at 10 a.m. at the Valley Center Library. The workshop is open to the public. There will be the opportunity to create a horizontal fall design incorporating dried plant material. Material fees are $10.  Conducting the workshop is  Donna Golich, a  Design Education Accredited Life Judge with the National Garden Club.

The Escondido Education Foundation’s Mike Caston Innovation Awards 2019 will be held Friday, December 6, 5-6 p.m. at Reidy Creek Elementary School, 2869 North Broadway. Hospice volunteer training sessions

Meet New People. Learn New Skills. Support Your Community.

 Volunteer Training Sessions Hosted by The Elizabeth Hospice 

The Elizabeth Hospice invites individuals interested in helping adults and children impacted by serious illness and those grieving the death of a loved one to a free volunteer orientation session. Attendees will learn about a wide variety of opportunities that are available throughout San Diego County including: serving as a patient companion, providing caregiver respite, performing aromatherapy, sewing Cuddle Bears, officiating at veteran pinning ceremonies, and much more. Information will be provided on both the application and training process.

Prospective volunteers can choose from the following sessions:

Thursday, December 19 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at The Elizabeth Hospice office located at 500 La Terraza Blvd. Suite 130, Escondido.

Friday, January 10, 2020 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Elizabeth Hospice office located at 500 La Terraza Blvd. Suite 130, Escondido.

Thursday, February 6 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at The Elizabeth Hospice office located at 500 La Terraza Blvd., Suite 130, Escondido 9202

Parkinson’s support group to meet

December 2: Parkinson’s support group meeting for all North County inland communities North County Parkinson’s Support Group sponsors free monthly meetings for persons with Parkinson’s and their care partners. Monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon at San Rafael Church, 17252 Bernardo Center Dr., Rancho Bernardo, in the Parish Hall. The first hour features a speaker relating to Parkinson’s and the second half consists of breakout groups of People with Parkinson’s in one area and care partners in another area. 

Featured speaker for Monday, December 2 is Jessica Romero from Southern Caregiver Resource Center who will present “Managing Caregiver Stress”.
