Bird lovers to meet

North County Aviculturists, a club for pet bird owners and breeders, presents Everybody’s Bird Supplies Swap Meet. To help raise money to cover expenses due to the death of a member in July.

The Swap Meet will be held at Vista Masonic Center, 761 Eucalyptus Ave., Vista, Saturday, August 3 Time: 5:30 p.m. (NEW start time.)

Bring all your items in good condition and offer them for sale at a good price. A donation jar will be out for Rusty, too. Refreshments to be announced. NCA is a ‘501(c)7 – Social and Recreation Clubs’ organization

Quilters’ workshop Sept. 13

In September, El Camino Quilters will participate in a workshop of Shibori presented by Sharleen Taira. Shibori is a Japanese technique that typically involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, or shaping cloth around elements like PVC pipe and rocks, then dyeing it with indigo blue dye to create beautiful patterns. 

Join the group for this enriching workshop at Quilt In A Day from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on September 13. Open to non-members.

Skate spot community meeting

Help design the new Washington Park skate spot. During this meeting residents can learn more about the projct and share ideas. The meeting will be on Saturday, July 27 from 1-3 p.m. in the Washington Park Rec Building.

Closed for maintenance

All Escondido library facilities will be closed on Tuesday, July 30 for maintenance.
Home firearm safety/basic handgun class

A monthly 4-hour familiarization and safety class is offered for anyone anticipating the purchase of, or who already own, a handgun. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, August 4  at the shooting range located east of Lake Wohlford, 16525 Guejito Rd. 

Participants learn the basics of handguns, home firearm safety and responsibility of firearm ownership. Handguns and ammunition are provided for those who do not own any but participants are encouraged to bring their own handgun and ammunition if they own one. Cost is $60. Register at 760-746-2868

21st annual Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament planned for September

Join the Escondido Chamber of Commerce as they host the 21st Annual Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament on Friday, September 27. It is going to be at a new venue this year – Eagle Crest Golf Club. Proceeds once again benefit the Escondido Police Athletic League.

Starting time is an early 7 a.m. registration / 8:30 a.m. Shotgun.

Parkinson’s Support Group to meet Aug. 5

August 5—North County Parkinson’s Support Group sponsors monthly meetings for persons with Parkinson’s and their caregivers. Free monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon at San Rafael Church, 17252 Bernardo Center Dr., Rancho Bernardo, in the Parish Hall. The first hour features a speaker relating to Parkinson’s and the second half consists of breakout groups of People with Parkinson’s in one area and caregivers in another area. 

Featured speaker will be Sherrie Gould, Nurse Practitioner, Scripps Movement Disorder Clinic. Gould will present “Treating Hallucinations and Delusions in Parkinson’s – and Nuplazid medication.”
