Suzanne Keim Martindale, 81

Suzanne (Sue) Keim Martindale, 81, passed away March 3, 2018 after a brief illness. Born on January 11, 1937 in Tucson, Arizona to Mildred and Joseph Keim, she spent her childhood there and on a ranch near Indio until her family moved to Newport Beach. She graduated from Newport Harbor High School and attended Orange Coast College and California State University, Long Beach.

In 1956 she married Victor Wilson and together they had three sons.  While raising them in Costa Mesa, she actively supported their many school, scouting and sports events.  Camping throughout the Southwest and Mexico made for many memorable family trips and off road adventures.

Sue later married Edward Martindale in 1974, and they lived in Costa Mesa before building a home in Valley Center in 1993. After moving to San Diego County, they soon became part of the community and thoroughly enjoyed the rural and friendly Valley Center life, hillside views and sunsets.

Mrs. Martindale loved her home, and she was a member of the Dos Valles Garden Club. Working in her garden along her beloved Cairn terrier, Sally, and entertaining family and friends brought her great joy. From her love of cooking and an extensive cookbook collection, she also found pleasure in finding new recipes that became favorites and sharing them with guests.

Her artistic talents were evident in the beautiful quilts she created. Exquisite quilts were beautifully displayed throughout her home, and she was a long-time member of the North County Quilters and Traveling Quilters groups. Quilting retreats were favorite events for her, and Mrs. Martindale shared both her sewing expertise and handmade quilts with others.  She also attended the Community Lutheran Church of Escondido where she created prayer quilts as an outreach ministry.

Survivors include her three sons and their families; Jeffrey Wilson (Otto) of Carson City, Nevada; Bruce Wilson (Dorothy) of Temecula, and Kenneth Wilson (Angela) of Jacksonville, Florida; and grandchildren Heather and Lauren Wilson, and Spencer and Annie Wilson.  She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Shepherd, Newport Beach. Mrs. Martindale was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Keim and her husband, Edward Martindale.

A private celebration of her life will be held later this spring.  Memorial contributions are welcome at the San Diego Humane Society.
