Subject that fled from CHP crashes

On February 26, 2018 at approximately 2:13 AM California Highway Patrol officers observed a red Honda motorcycle fail to stop for a red light at the exit ramp of I-15 Northbound at El Norte Parkway.  The CHP unit attempted to make an enforcement stop on the motorcycle and the motorcyclist fled.  The rider, identified later as Nam Nguyen, a 36 year old resident of Escondido, led the CHP unit on a pursuit through Escondido and San Marcos, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit proceeded on Mission Road near Nordahl Road.  At approximately 2:16 AM, the rider was traveling westbound on Mission Road near the SR-78 overpass, still fleeing from the CHP unit, when he lost control and struck the raised center median.  The rider was ejected over the median onto the eastbound lanes of Mission Road.

The rider sustained severe injuries during the collision including multiple broken bones, internal injuries and several lacerations.  Officers rendered medical assistance to the rider as he continued to physically resist.  Mr. Nguyen was placed under arrest and transported to Palomar Medical Center. Mr. Nguyen was released to the care of the hospital due to his severe injuries.

Mr. Nguyen was determined to be impaired at the time of this incident.  Additionally his license was suspended and had an active felony warrant for his arrest.

Felony evading, DUI, warrant, and unlicensed driver charges will be recommended to the District Attorney regarding this incident.

Traffic lanes in the area were affected from the time of the collision, until approximately 6:00 AM as the scene was investigated.
