Students Earth Day posters recognized

A few of the posters that were honored.

At the April 5 City Council meeting Escondido students were recognized for their Earth Day Poster Contest.

First Mayor Sam Abed read a proclamation established April 22 as Earth Day in Escondido and April as Earth Awareness Month.

The poster contest recognized students for incorporating recycled items into their art. Thirty students in grades K-8 were brought in to the city council meeting to bee recognized.

The winning posters were displayed at City Hall for two weeks.

K-2nd grade winners:

  • 1st: Grace Cruz 2nd grade, Farr Elementary School
  • 2nd: Allyson Ruscitti 2nd grade, Escondido Christian School
  • 3rd; Paige Torok 2nd grade, Escondido Christian School

3rd-5th grade winners:

  • 1st: Abigayle White 3rd grade, Lincoln Elementary School
  • 2nd: Karly Sommers 5th grade, Escondido Christian School
  • 3rd: Julia Lazareno 4th grade, Bernardo Elementary School

6th-8th grade winners:

  • 1st: Dhalia Balderas 6th grade, Heritage Digital Academy
  • 2nd: James Eric Smith 7th grade, Bear Valley Middle School
  • 3rd: Madison Little  8th grade, Bear Valley Middlev
