‘State of the City’ to be virtual this year

Another Escondido civic celebration will be shunted aside this year, a victim of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ban on public gatherings of any size: The State of the City.

Every year the banquet room at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido fills to capacity for the mayor’s speech and the recognition by each council member of people in the community who have done special things worthy of praise. Not this year.

According to Teresa M. Collins, communications manager for the City of Escondido, “We will be holding a scaled down virtual State of the City during the March 3rd City Council meeting. The Mayor will give remarks and we will show a video recapping our year.”

Asked if there would be any awards this year, she said: “There will be no awards this year. The award program will return in 2022.”
