Something New Is Happening At Grace Church!

“Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them” (Isaiah 42:9, NKJV).

“New things I declare…” For the past couple of years, I have been sensing change coming. I wasn’t sure what the change would be, but quite honestly, Faith Harbor Church has endured a great deal of change. Change isn’t always welcome, but God has developed a strong congregation through it all.

As the host pastor for Wow Jam Escondido, I had the wonderful privilege of becoming better acquainted with local pastors. At a Wow Jam leader’s planning meeting one day, I was approached by Pastor Brian Bauer of Grace Church San Marcos, who asked if I had ever thought of joining our churches together. I told him I was listening and that day began a series of many hours of meetings going forward.

I am happy to announce that we believe the Lord has called Becky and me to submit our congregation and resources to Pastors Brian and his wife, Melissa, for what we believe will ultimately be a redemption story; a happy ending to something which happened years ago.

Pastor Brian came to San Diego County two years ago, having been raised in the Los Angeles area, having served on-staff with The Church On The Way, founded by his grandfather, Pastor Jack Hayford (see

One day over coffee, Pastor Brian shared what he believed to be a redemptive purpose for the unified course we’ve now chosen to embark upon. Some years ago, Grace International President, Rev. Steve Riggle, led the purchase of the current church property from Trinity Broadcasting Network founders, Paul and Jan Crouch.  Prior to that, Merlin Carothers, author of “Prison to Praise” oversaw a ministry on this same location. The church’s beginnings, however, go back to the 70’s, launched out of a worship-based revival. Sadly, a few years after its founding, the church experienced a split on Easter Sunday!

When he shared this with me, my spirit leaped within me and I knew God wanted to do something new! Pastor Brian’s passion is worship and the Word. It’s my passion too. What better way to bring redemption to a ministry than to bring it full-circle, back to its original purpose?

The Lord specializes in redeeming people and granting new beginnings.  There is truly nothing the devil can do which God cannot take and give “Beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness” (Isaiah 61:3, NKJV). There is excitement in the air; a sense of exponential opportunity and potential. “Before they spring forth, I tell you of them” (Isaiah 42:9, NKJV).

What is this exponential component?  The Bible says, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity… For there the Lord has commanded the blessing…” (Psalm 133:1,3, ESV).  Blessing is on the way!

If you don’t already have a home church, we would like to invite you to our kick-off this coming Sunday, Nov. 5 at 10AM.  Pastor Jack Hayford will be with us Sunday, Nov. 12th to oversee the uniting of these congregations.  You have a home at Grace!
