Some local charities worthy of your attention this year

You may not ever have heard of Giving Tuesday (and I admit to never having heard of it before this week, when suddenly it was everywhere I looked so that I couldn’t ignore it) some of the causes that have been highlighted during the day after Cyber Monday are very much worthy of your attention as December 31 rolls closer and you look for places to donate to so you can deduct them for the 2017 tax year.

If you missed Giving Tuesday, here are a few local causes to consider.

Alternatives Women’s Center

Alternative’s team of medical professionals are specifically trained to provide medical care to confirm pregnancy diagnosis including confirmation of viability. We provide evidence-based medical education that will empower you and enable you with confidence to make choices concerning your unique situation. We inform…you decide.

 Assistance League

During 2017, we provided new school clothing and shoes helping over 1800 children K-12 feel more confident and successful. We also awarded $110,000 in scholarships to high school graduates and college students in training programs for nursing and EMT. In addition, we gave comfort to children and seniors in crisis situations with our Philanthropic Programs. The giving season begins November 28 and goes through December 31. Please consider a special donation to Assistance League of Inland North County.

Escondido Education Compact

Escondido Education COMPACT is a unique and nontraditional (nonprofit public benefit) organization designed to provide support and services for at-risk youth in North San Diego County. COMPACT has been a youth workforce development specialist for over 25 years – providing youth (14-24) with work readiness training and linkages to employment. We work with local businesses and industry to provide enriching educational and career exploration for all students who access our programs. We pull together all of Inland North County’s various and diverse resources for the benefit of our entire community.

California Center for the Arts Escondido

The California Center for the Arts, Escondido is dedicated to bringing people together to discover, create, and celebrate the arts. From our performing arts shows, Museum exhibitions, community festivals, and conference center events, we connect our community through the arts every day for over a quarter of a million attendees annually.

Palomar Health Foundation

While Palomar Health has been serving North County for more than six decades, the Foundation was later established in 1984 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to support the programs, services, projects and growing needs of the healthcare district.

Solutions for Change

There are many solutions at Solutions for Change. Taken together, they are the pillars supporting a productive environment in which we build the futures of homeless families. Our solutions consist of Solutions University, Solutions Enterprise, and Solutions in the Community. Every day, they combine to create successful, sustainable solutions for families and the San Diego communities in which they live.

The Escondido Creek Conservancy

Through the Conservancy’s leadership, the Escondido Creek Watershed will become a model of vibrant urban communities and viable natural ecosystems thriving together.
