After a two-month fishing hiatus, the opening of shore fishing at Lake Poway brought out members of two north San Diego County senior angler fishing clubs. Fourteen anglers and guests from the Oceanside and Escondido senior angler clubs were greeted with a warm spring day and clear blue skies on May 15, along with 6 feet of distancing and the wearing of facemasks.
With both of the club’s activities being shut down due to COVID-19, the casual fishing tournament was a non-club event sponsored by one of their members.
There was not much action, but some holdover Nebraska Tailwalker trout were possible according to the lake’s store. Any fish species qualified for the tournament.
Member of the Oceanside Senior Anglers club, Chris Bentley, turned in the only catch, a 3.26-pound Tailwalker Rainbow.
Excited to be back on the water, attendees are planning another casual tournament on May 29 at Lake Wohlford. Lake Wohlford will have stocked 1,500 pounds of Channel Catfish by the next tournament.
