School closed for day after Facebook threat

Escondido’s Rincon Middle School has closed for the day after someone made a threat on Snapchat, then shared to Facebook this morning.  The Escondido Police Department is investigating the matter.

The middle school put out this message earlier today:

“Hello Rincon Families

A social media post containing a threatening message was reported to our school. We are working closely with Police to ensure the safety of all students. In an abundance of caution school is closed for today Thursday march 15. Student safety is our highest priority. We will keep you informed with any information as it becomes available.

Again, school is closed today.”

“We are investigating the threat and have been in communication with the school,” Escondido Police spokesman Ed Varso told the Times-Advocate. “ There is no information to confirm the legitimacy of this threat.  However, this is a serious matter and we are working to identify the source of the threat.  We have officers at the school to ensure the safety of staff and any students that did not receive the school closure message.”
