The efforts of the Healthy Santas to promote children eating a healthy diet are still going strong this Holiday season at both the Tuesday night Farmers Market on Grand Avenue and Juniper Street in downtown Escondido, and at the Sunday mid-morning market at the Sikes Adobe Farmstead off Via Rancho Parkway, across from the Westfield Mall. There they pass out Santa’s 3 Food Rules designed to help kids break away from eating Fast, Snack and Processed foods in favor of “eating Real Food” – the type available at the Farmers Markets.

At the Tuesday night market on Grand Ave Santa Glen shows 4-year-old Sophia the value of “eating the rainbow” as her mother Mayra contemplates the vitamin and mineral values which create the different colors in vegetables. Eating a combination of them can yield optimum health. The Santas urge mom to have their child help them cook at least one healthy meal each week using vegetables of their child’s favorite colors — and in the process teach them how to prepare the vegetables to maximize both their nutritional value and taste.
