San Pasqual High School stands out for high COVID numbers

The Escondido Union High School District is keeping close tabs on the number of confirmed cases of COVID at each of its campuses. One of its schools, San Pasqual High School, has 1.49% percent of the student body as testing positive for the virus.

Numbers are updated by the district every Tuesday with the data as of the following Friday.  As of Wednesday, August 18, the numbers provided by the district were as follows:

Del Lago Academy, with a total of 815 students and staff on campus, 0 cases, Escondido Adult School, with 448 students and staff, 9 cases; Escondido High School, with 1930 students and staff, 9 cases; Orange Glen High School, with 1833 students and staff, 8 cases; San Pasqual High School with 1945 students and staff, 29 cases; Valley High School, with 214 students and staff, 0 cases, District office, with 172 staff,  3 cases and Students and Staff remote (374), 3 cases.

According to Paula Zamudio, community relations officer for the district: “As a district we continue to track positive COVID-19 cases on our campuses.  Those are updated weekly and accessible on our dashboard, which is available here:  www.euhsd.org/updates-remote-learning-resources/#1605829703684-0c9f704e-24e8

Zamudio continued, “Safety of students and staff remains at the forefront of all our on campus learning plans.  As a district, we are participating in a free rapid antigen testing program, which reduces the number of close contact students who need to be quarantined. This is the same type of testing that was administered to our student athletes across our district as a condition of athletic eligibility last spring. Students will be allowed to return to class with a negative test result, minimizing disruptions to their on-campus learning. The use of seating charts by teachers is emphasized so that close contacts of positive COVID-19 cases can easily be identified. A more comprehensive review of protocols the district is taking to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on school campuses can be found in our Return to Campus guide:
