At its regularly scheduled board meeting in May, the Rincon Water (District) board of directors recognized three 4th grade students who attend school within the water district’s service area and submitted award winning artwork in the district’s annual poster contest.
The artwork depicted the students’ awareness of water as the most precious resource while illustrating the theme “Be Water Smart”.
The students’ artwork will be showcased in the North County Water Agencies’ 2020 Calendar which is dedicated to the teachers, administrators, home educators, and parents who have encouraged their students to help promote water awareness. “Through their artwork, the students have exemplified sound water use ethics. We are proud that they are sharing this with others in our community,” said Greg Thomas, Rincon Water’s General Manager.
This year, Rincon Water received nearly 50 entries representing three of the five local elementary schools in the District’s service area. The winners represented North Broadway, Reidy Creek, and Rock Springs Elementary Schools. The top three entries were awarded gift certificates in the amounts of $100, $75, and $50, for first, second, and third places respectively. Additionally, each winning student’s teacher received $100 for classroom art supplies. This year’s winners were Yanizel Jimenez (1st place), Samantha Orozco (2nd place), and Audrey Threatt (3rd place). The teachers were Jim March, Diana Eyres-Wright, and Janet Isherwood.
The 2020 calendars will be available in early December at any North County Water Agency administration office.
