POLICE BLOTTER

The Police Blotter comes from the files of the Escondido Police Department.

Parolee crashes after fleeing police
On October 18, an officer tried to pull over a car that was speeding near Spruce Street and 9th Avenue. The driver failed to pull over and led police on a pursuit until he lost control of his car and crashed into a signal box next to Del Dios Academy. The driver, a known parolee, attempted to run away, but was quickly caught by pursing officers. He was arrested for DUI, evading arrest, hit and run, and was booked into jail.

Two separate stabbings
On October 18 and 19, two unrelated stabbings occurred in two different locations. The first incident occurred in the creek bed behind 2100 S. Escondido Blvd. The second incident occurred at the storage facility at 425 N. Quince St. In both circumstances, the suspects were known to the victims. Both injuries were non-life threatening and potential motives are currently being investigated.

Armed parolee falls asleep inside stolen car
On October 19, officers were dispatched to investigate two subjects asleep in a car parked in the 300 block of S. Vine Street. Officers quickly learned that the car was stolen. There was a male subject in the driver’s seat and a female subject in the front passenger seat and they were both asleep. After officers blocked the car in, they attempted to wake the subjects with a PA system.
The driver woke up, but initially refused to exit the car. He could be seen grabbing at something between the seat and the door. Officers later found a loaded, stolen handgun tucked next to the driver’s seat. The driver crawled out the passenger door and ran away on foot. He was later found hiding in a shed in the backyard of a nearby house. He is a parolee and a documented gang member who was arrested on numerous felony charges.

Shooting leaves one wounded, suspect in custody
On October 24, police were dispatched to the area of the McDonalds at Ash Street and Valley Parkway regarding a shooting involving two cars. When the officers arrived in the area, they were unable to locate any of the involved parties. A short time later, CHP informed the police that they had stopped a car near Palomar Medical Center. In the car, they discovered an adult female victim with two gunshot wounds. She was transported to the hospital where she survived her injuries. The suspect was identified and arrested a couple of days later. The motives and what led up to the shooting are still under investigation.

  1. Robert Daumiller says:

Why no names of the arrestees? In the seventies & eighties, all those arrested had their names posted. I never obtained an answer why this policy changed at the Advocate.
