Palomar Symphony Orchestra and Choruses announce fall 2018 season and call for performers

The Palomar Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Singers and Chorale have announced their upcoming Fall concert season, and encourages members of the community to consider joining one of these ensembles.

The first concert is called “Renewable Energy” – featuring Dr. Peter Gach, piano soloist. Shows will be Saturday, October 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 13 at 4 p.m. This “electrifying” program will include works for voices and piano by Brahms, Pinkham and Gjeilo. Then, the ever-magnetic Dr. Peter Gach plugs into the PSO for Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in Eb Major.

The second program is “Winter Fantasy,” and will feature works invoking all of the warm aspects of the season. Members of the Palomar Contemporary Dance Ensemble, directed by Dr. Molly Faulkner, will charm you in Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. But dreams of sugar plums are just the beginning in this program of weather and holiday spirit, including a piece by Palomar’s composer-in-residence, Dr. Madelyn Byrne. And this is no illusion – a special performance of Vivaldi’s “Winter” from the Four Seasons featuring violin soloist Ulli Reiner and Palomar Dance Faculty Joie Waldron’s Axxion Dance Collective will be sure to captivate the entire family.

Now in its 72nd season, The Palomar Symphony Orchestra is directed by Dr. Ellen Weller. The Palomar Chorale and Chamber Singers are directed by Professor of Vocal/Choral Studies, Dr. John Russell (who is also the director of the San Diego Master Chorale). All concerts will be held in the Howard Brubeck Theatre on the campus of Palomar College.

Be sure to arrive 45 minutes before each performance to catch Dr. Weller’s fun and informative pre-concert chats. Tickets can be purchased online at www.palomarperforms.com, or by calling the Palomar College Box Office at 760-744-1150 ext. 2453.

Participation in the orchestra and choirs is open to all Palomar Students, talented high school students and interested adult community members. The Palomar Symphony Orchestra rehearses on campus at on Tuesday evenings starting at 6:45 beginning August 22. If you have experience playing an orchestral instrument, please contact Dr. Weller at eweller@palomar.edu.
