In honor of the hard work and dedication of all health care workers, Palomar Health this week announced its 2016 Doctors and Nurses of the Year.
During National Nurses Week, the first week of May, one nurse was named the 2016 Roz & Len Kolins Nurse of the Year at each of Palomar Health’s three hospitals: Palomar Medical Center, Pomerado Hospital and Palomar Health Downtown Campus.
The winners were selected by their peers from a list of nurses who were chosen as the nurse of the year for their individual departments within the hospital.
“Nurses were drawn to health care to serve people,” said Bob Hemker, Palomar Health President and CEO. “Each day they come in without expectation of receiving anything in return, other than giving of themselves. I’d like to congratulate and thank all our health care professionals for everything they do for our patients, their families andcommunity.”
The Nurse of the Year awards went to Palomar Medical Center’s Marilou
Acheff, RN, Neurological Unit; Pomerado Hospital’s Debra Roman, RN, Birth Center; and Palomar Health Downtown Campus’s Ruth Parker, RN, Acute Rehabilitation.
Still one of the most in-demand careers in America, nursing has been rated as the most trusted professions by the Gallup Poll for 14 consecutive years.
Palomar Health also honored its doctors recently during National Doctor’s Day, awarding a physician of the year at each campus.
Winners were chosen by nursing staff at each hospital. Physician of the Year awards went to Palomar Medical Center’s David Cloyd, M.D., General Surgery; Pomerado Hospital’s Badalin Helvind, M.D.; and Behavioral Health Palomar Health Downtown Campus’s Keyvan Esmaeili, M.D., Acute Rehabilitation.
