The Escondido Police Athletic League (PAL) has gone into “emergency relief mode” according to PAL Director and retired EPD office Al Owens.
“I am getting asked a few questions about PAL, since we have been shut down on activities due to COVID-19,” Owens said this week. “We knew a lot of our families were in bad shape financially so we went into emergency relief mode. PAL has provided food and gift certificates to several families.”
He added, “We want to make sure none of our PAL families, or any family for that matter, goes to bed hungry. If any PAL families are in dire need of food, please send me a private message.”
Owens isn’t confining his good work to the youth. “My wife Kristina saw a post from a young lady I had worked with in the past. She works at a Senior Care facility and due to Coronavirus the seniors cannot have visitors, and some did not have a television in their room. The seniors have aged out of PAL, so Kristina and I teamed up with Rotary of Escondido After 5 to purchase some televisions for the facility.”
Owens is constantly asked the BIG question: “Will we have a summer basketball season? I am almost positive the State and County will not allow it. We may try to run a basketball camp in late July or August, so stay tuned. Stay safe and healthy.”
