SURPRISE!—Tara Buford holds the check for $2,500 that she found waiting for her on April 23.

On April 23 Orange Glen Elementary School second grade teacher Tara Buford was surprised with a $2,500 award from California Casualty.

Buford will be buying educational materials that will help her students with the new Common Core curriculum as well as non-fiction books that can be shared by the entire 2nd grade team at her school.

California Casualty created the Academic Award in 2012 to help educators who spend hundreds of dollars of their own funds each year. The award can be used for classroom supplies, technology, materials or projects. This is the seventh Academic Award given since the program began.
