The property is 6 acres and about 2.5 acres of the property is the Vineyard. There are seven varietals grown. The vines were brought over from Italy and planted nine years ago and have been producing award-winning wine for the past four years. Cheval’s signature varietal is Sangiovese.
Winery owner Donna Kaufman and her husband Randal have lived in San Diego in the Santa Luz area for seven years. They are excited about this new venture.
Donna Kaufman is an avid horse lover, owns and shows several horses throughout the United States. She was looking for horse property when she came upon the winery property for sale. She fell in love and the rest is history.
One year later they acquired their Small Winery permit to hold events, and have rebranded to the name Cheval Winery which means horse in French. Donna Kaufman’s French heritage and her love for horses is the story behind the name. The brand was created by FLVR Branding and the wines are all named after the horses.
The horses arrive next week just in time for the opening, and will be available for guests to meet, pet and enjoy their beauty.
Cheval Winery have also joined the Escondido Wine Association, which will be participating in the opening.
