Names released of Escondido men killed in head on collision

The Medical Examiner’s office last week released the names of two Escondido men killed in a head-on collision July 27 on Hwy 76 in Pauma Valley near Pauma Valley Country Club.

The men are Andrew Parks, 24, and his 27-year-old sibling, Alexander, who were heading east on state Hwy 76 when the 2002 Mazda Miata they were in crossed into a westbound lane shortly before 10:30 a.m.

At approximately 10:28 a.m. a 49 year old male from Chula Vista along with his 43 year old male passenger were traveling westbound on Hwy 76 just west of Lazy H Dr. in their 2014 Box truck. The driver of the truck stated that he observed a vehicle driving the wrong way coming directly for his vehicle. He was unable to avoid the collision and both vehicles collided head on.

The driver of the wrong way vehicle and his 27-year-old male were killed instantly.

The driver and passenger of the box truck were transported to Palomar Hospital with minor injuries. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision. It remains under investigation.
