Marilyn Mackay Axe age 90, passed on December 15, 2018 in Escondido. Born and raised in Escondido to Paul and Helen Mackay (Tappe), she had a sister, Jean Musgrove and brother, Don Mackay who predeceased her and brother Douglas Mackay (Nancy) of Escondido.
She was married 57 years to Frederick Harry Axe who passed away in 2008. They had four children, Sally Morris (Doug) of Lonoke, Arkansas; Donald Axe (Sharon) of Spring Valley, Barbara Stump (Richard) of Escondido and predeceased by Robert Axe. Mrs. Axe worked for the Bank of America for 30 years and World Book Encyclopedia for 20 years.
After raising her family in San Diego, they moved to Ireland for eight months, traveled in Europe and extensively RV’ing in the U.S. and Canada before returning to Escondido. Mrs. Axe was involved in her church and was a docent for the Escondido Historical Society. She was an “Honored Guest” at Escondido’’s 125th Anniversary Celebration.
She made friends wherever she went, was always ready for fun and adventure and enjoyed telling stories and poems. She especially loved her six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, seven nieces & nephews and their children.
Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 29 at 11 a.m. at Gateway Community Church, 910 Los Vallecitos Blvd., San Marcos.
