Major Market part owner dies in car accident

Patsy London, 79, widow of Dick London, one of the founders of the Major Market chain, was killed as a result of injuries sustained in a multiple car accident on July 1, around 2:30 p.m. near the corner of Valley Center Road & Miller Road in front of Portino’s Restaurant in Valley Center.

Mrs. London, who was at the time of her death a resident of Long Beach, died on July 7.

On July 1 Mrs. London was the restrained driver and sole occupant of a vehicle that was traveling northbound on Valley Center Road when she crossed the median and collided head on with a southbound traveling vehicle. The decedent’s vehicle continued traveling into the path of oncoming traffic and she was struck on her driver side by a second vehicle.

She was transported to Palomar Medical Center where her condition failed to improve and was pronounced dead on July 7.

The County Medical Examiner released the name of the victim in the accident.

Mrs. London was the widow of Dick London, who with his partner Sam Logan, founded Major Market in 1988. They operate markets in Escondido and Fallbrook.

The Londons lived in Pauma Valley for several years. Mrs. London moved to Long Beach after Mr. London died in 2010.
