Local VFW brings resources and art to Escondido veterans

In honor of Veterans Day, Escondido’s Veterans of Foreign War John R. Simpson Post 1513 is hosting a Veteran Resource Riot, an event that will bring resources to veterans, active duty military, their families and the community. The event will be held on November 9 at noon in Escondido’s Heritage Park.

“If you served in our nation’s military, you and your family are invited to join us at our Veterans Resource Riot and Art Festival. There, you can meet fellow veterans, enjoy music and artwork, and find out what benefits are available to you. Afterwards, check out the wonderful art galleries and other shops on Grand Avenue!” FW Post 1513 Commander, Matt Foster, told the Times-Advocate.

Escondido’s VFW is inviting various organizations that provide resources for Veterans and active military who are transitioning to civilian life. Many service members separate from active duty without understanding their benefits and in many cases not securing employment. VFW Post 1513 aims to make these resources more readily available, some of which include Veteran benefits, home loan information, and employment opportunities.

The VFW is partnering with the Escondido Arts Partnership Municipal Gallery who will be hosting their Art Riot event for the month of November. The Art Riot invites everyone to enter their juried show. The show will feature Veteran artwork and have a space devoted to the organization Vet Art. The reception for the Art Riot will be from 5:30 p.m. on November 9 following the Resource Riot.
