The Crusaders go on an offensive tear as they capture their opener. Junior Daniel Esquerra leads the way with 111 yards rushing and a touchdown. Sophomore Wesley Salzman is also a force on the ground (106 yards, 1 TD). Senior wideout Jordan Thomsen parlays his three catches into 64 yards and a score.
San Pasqual 24 – Vista 14
The Golden Eagles overcome a 14-10 halftime deficit with two scores after intermission to earn their first win of the season. S. Pugh tallies on a pair of 1-yard runs while quarterback Nick Hurst finds pay dirt with a 38-yard scamper. Jacob Toledo contributes with a field goal from 31 yards out.
Crawford 15 – Classical Academy 13
The Caimans score 13 points after the break but it’s not enough as the Colts hand Classical its second straight setback of the new season.
Escondido 35 – Mira Mesa 21
The Cougars score in every quarter, recover a pair of onside kicks and roll to a decisive victory that levels their record at 1-1. Quarterback Kellen McCoy has a monster night, running for a brace of touchdowns (2 and 19 yards) before tossing scoring pitches to Miguel Rocha and Marcio Souffront. On the ground, Souffront dominates while piling up a whopping 218 rushing yards. Cade Pannell punches one in from 3 yards out to wrap up the Cougar scoring.
L J Country Day 56 – Orange Glen 21
The two teams register a remarkable 35 points between them in the first quarter before the Torreys add on 21 more before intermission to take command. The loss drops the Patriots’ slate to 1-1. LJCD quarterback Braxton Burmeister goes wild, throwing for 310 yards and a hefty four TD’s. Pat receiver Malachi Russell keeps his big-play magic going with a 78-yard bomb from QB Blaine Bailey.
Vincent Memorial 28 – Escondido Charter 7
The White Tigers fall for the first time as VM emphatically breaks a halftime tie with a 21-point third quarter. The lone EC touchdown comes on an impressive 64-yard jaunt by junior running back Hunter Boyce.
