Local firefighters in tribute to fallen Marine—

On the evening of June 10 the Valley Center Fire Department participated in a Tribute to Marine Corps Sergeant Eric Seamen who was killed performing a humanitarian mission in Nepal after the recent earthquake. Fire Chief Joe Napier told the Times Advocate, “It is never easy for a community to bring a member of their family home to rest but it is our hope that through the celebration of Eric’s life we will all come to realize the important difference the Marine Corps makes in far away places, in our County, and in our local community. The local connection for our community was the Cocos Fire in May of last year. Sargeant Eric Seman was one of many Marines assigned on Marine Corps Helicopters to drop water on the Cocos Fire to save lives and homes. Our Marine Corps Helicopters worked along side CAL FIRE and San Diego County aerial resources to prevent a potential conflagration in the San Elijo Hills of San Marcos. The Valley Center Fire Protection District celebrates and honors Sergeant Eric Seamen for his selfless dedication as a United States Marine. Semper Fidelis.”
