“When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.” (Exodus 34:29-30, ESV)
In 1905, Albert Einstein, an unknown patent clerk, shocked the scientific community by boldly declaring that light was not a continuous wave, but consisted of localized particles (see www.npr.org). It is said that Einstein theorized that time would actually slow down the closer one came to the actual source of light, to the point that when reached, time would stand still and one would actually reach, in Einstein’s words, eternity. That is astounding.
The Bible says, “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5, ESV). In the passage above, Moses spent quality time with the Lord; so much so, that his face glowed from being in the presence of the Light. I am not suggesting that if we spend time with God that we will glow, but I am suggesting that His light will illumine our spirits, give us deeper understanding and redeem actual time we so often struggle to use effectively. I believe there are plans God has for us which may only be unlocked by communing intimately with God.
“The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple” (Psalm 119:130, NKJV). I have discovered the more I spend quality time with God and in His Word, the Holy Spirit is ready to give revelation and understanding – something He is willing to do for each of us.
At times when it seems difficult to hear God’s voice, determining to settle down, to find time in which I am not distracted… that is what this verse means when is says, “It gives understanding to the simple.” That is not a denigrating term. The word “Simple” means uncomplicated. God is looking for our undivided attention, and we live in a very complicated world with many distractions. When we commit to time in prayer and in His Word, we are promised that the Holy Spirit will teach us and show us things to come (see John 16:13).
With this thought in mind, notice the following, “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105, NKJV). This suggests that for anyone reading the Word; any believer needing direction for their everyday challenges, for someone struggling to make decisions, spending time in the Light brings amazing clarity.
The Bible is a supernatural document, written by the Holy Spirit through men to every generation, to every individual who believes. Simply focusing on God, on what He has to say to mankind, you will discover the answers you need coming to you with much greater ease. Moses came down the mountain and shared with the people what God was saying to them. What is God saying to you today?
