Editor, Times-Advocate:
I am a voracious reader and a book lover, so I read the article “Save our library group forms vows resistance” with great interest. Having been a patron of the Escondido Library for many years and a literacy volunteer, I view this institution as more than just a place of business. It is a place where folks come in to cool off on a hot summer day, where families attend story nights and check out movies and games for wholesome entertainment.
My description may sound romantic, but I have to wonder if that small town, welcoming feel will continue with outsourcing of services? More pointedly, will that outside service be able to attract highly qualified employees who will continue the welcoming feel if the pay and benefits packages are relatively low?
