We can tell it’s the political season by the developer dollars flooding into campaign coffers. In Escondido, Councilmember Mike Morasco defended receipt of an outrageous $4,300 campaign donation from the developers of Harvest Hills by attacking Sierra Club. He accused Sierra Club of being anti-development and anti-growth.
As Conservation Chair of Sierra Club’s North County Group I can say that is patently false. Sierra Club is proud to stand for good projects in the right location, offer a range of affordability, and are built with family supporting wages. Sierra Club has a National Urban Infill policy and supports more affordable and workforce housing in our region. We oppose dangerous sprawl projects, like Harvest Hills, that increase fire danger, worsen traffic, and add to climate change. We support new rules that will avoid this obvious conflict in the future. Let’s remove the corruption of money from our local government decisions.
