Editor, Times-Advocate:
As one who has adored the public library since I was allowed to have my very own card when I was nine years old, and whose very first “real” job was as a Book Page in my town’s library, I am aghast and scandalized at the decision to privatize the library in Escondido. I believe with great confidence that this is a mistake the City will deeply regret.
To the residents who are fighting against this, a librarian in a seminary in Chicago gave me this information for you. “I hope the residents fighting it have contacted the American Library Association for assistance. They have the resources and advocates to help them.”
If Escondido does go through with this, I hope all residents will have a bonfire and burn their cards and start using the public library of a nearby community.
