Letter to the Editor: PLEASE, HELP MOVE THIS PROJECT ALONG

Editor, Times-Advocate:

KB Home and the City of Escondido have been unable to work together to allow construction to start on the Oak Creek development near Felicity Park.

We thought we were fortunate to purchase one of the first five homes to be sold in this development. KB Home sold the lot/home in August 2019 with the promise of having the first families moving into their dream homes by Feb 2020. In our case, we were purchasing the home in order to be closer to our aging in-laws to be closer and able to assist them. Unfortunately, the build has never happened and we lost our father-in-law in April before the homes could be started. KB Home cannot tell anyone when construction will start and there is finger pointing from both sides.

We are asking anyone else who has purchased or submitted a letter of intent to purchase at Oak Creek to call KB Home and the City of Escondido. How can it be legal for a company to sell lots/homes without the proper permission to build is a mystery to me. Many families sold their original homes at the suggestion of KB Home and are now renting until something can be done.

We are hoping someone will read this article that can help to move this project along.

    Wade,

First. I am sorry for your loss. I feel your pain because we are on the same boat. Back in Jan 2020, we were told by KB representative that the first phase is completely sold out, so we were on the second phase priority list which was supposed to be ready around June – July 2020. We have sold our house and are supposed to leave it in 30 days now and not sure if we should look for our next house in the market or rent until KB figures this out. That is very unprofessional of them to start selling and create a priority list before doing their due diligence and getting the permits from City of Escondido.

Wade, I am sorry for your loss. I am a neighbor to the development, and am sorry to say that I have seen no noticeable progress over the past year. I am afraid that this development’s future is in question, and I would try to reach out to KB home and sue them if they do not respond in a timely manner. You are their customer, and they are not holding up to their end of the deal.
