Escondido residents are tired of hearing our politicians publicly cry poor while simultaneously raising salaries of executive management. During the City’s June budget hearing, I requested Council consider implementation of a budget committee to assist in finding solutions to Escondido’s financial woes. Mayor Abed deemed it unnecessary, refused to make it an agenda item, and his councilmen fell in line. During the same meeting, Council majority went on to authorize a budget embedded with a $50 K salary increase for City Manager Jeff Epps, making him the highest paid City Manager in the County, and one of the highest paid City Managers in the state. Do not be fooled, any savings garnered from the privatization of our library goes directly into the general fund, the same fund in which they found the money for the City Manager’s salary increase.
