Letter to the Editor: COUNCIL DIDN’T WEIGH ALL THE OPTIONS

Editor, Times-Advocate:

The three Escondido City Council members Abed, Gallo and Masson should be ashamed of themselves. They voted to move forward with a plan to outsource the public library without weighing all options for the library and without considering the entire city services budget reduction.

Instead they bulldozed ahead without exploring the possibility of entering the San Diego County library system that would have saved them an equal amount of money, and with the threat of legal actions to come if they move forward. The crowd of around 250 people and around 90 speakers who with only two exceptions, voiced their requests to stop this process, evaluate all options and to confirm the legality of their actions, but as usual the majority of council would not listen to reason.

I find it appalling that once again the council majority does not listen to their constituents and again put the city’s citizens as their lowest priority by meandering down the path that will once again lead them to hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees that the taxpayers will again have to pay.
